Then almost immediately JCB added another £100,000 which, with matched funding, means that there is just £540,000 left to find to help the Art Fund reach its target by November 30. A total of £15.75m is needed to prevent the archive being split up and sold off.
"Exceptional public support has triggered a tide of pledges from major donors, trusts and foundations," said Stephen Deuchar, director of the Art Fund.
"The remarkable affection and concern for the Wedgwood Collection has never been so profoundly visible as through the convergence of so many individuals, trusts and foundations."
