The move follows the exodus of Spink specialists Mark Quayle, Oliver Pepys and John Hayward to DNW earlier this year.
Erskine-Hill, who began his career in the coin and medal department at Christie’s in 1980, was head of the medal department at Spink from 1997-2002, when he moved to DNW.
A Spink spokeswoman said: “He is the longest-serving auctioneer and cataloguer in his chosen field, a career that has witnessed him setting numerous saleroom records.
“Above all, however, David values the friendships he has established with the collecting fraternity worldwide, and indeed with numerous veterans.”
