The exhibition is hosted by Barnes Auctions and the oil paintings have all come from a single-owner collection in London.

Amassed over a forty-year period, they will now be sold off individually by the family of the collector who died last year.

Simon Danciger, auctioneer at Barnes Auctions, said: “It’s not unusual to find a painting of a rabbi in a Jewish home, perhaps an ancestral family member or a much-loved spiritual teacher. To find fifty under one roof is somewhat out of the ordinary.”

The exhibition A Roomful of Rabbis will take place on October 30 in the Old Sorting Office Arts Centre in Barnes between 10am to 4pm. Some of the paintings are signed and prices range between £100 and £1000.

The day before Barnes Auctions will put over 300 lots under the hammer, all from local private vendors and entered without reserve. The auction will be hosted on thesaleroom.com.
