The sale, which took place on October 27, had as its best-seller a powder horn decorated with scrimshaw.

It showed a naïve train on one side and a tall ship on the other and was knocked down for £1700. Also faring well was one depicting images from the Battle of Waterloo, which sold for £700.

These gunpowder containers were generally created from cow, ox or buffalo horn for their waterproof properties and shape which enabled ease of powder dispensing.
