Schriever joined Bonhams in Sydney as senior art specialist in 2013, and recently put together the auction house’s AUS$3.5m sale of Australian and Aboriginal Art.

Matthew Girling, global CEO of Bonhams, said: “Merryn’s proven track record – as evidenced by the superb result for our June sale – makes her the perfect fit to assume the leadership for Bonhams in Australia. Bonhams remains committed to holding sales in Sydney and I know that Merryn will continue to build upon our success.”

Schriever added: “Bonhams is the only international house in Australia, and one of our great selling points is that we are able to use Bonhams’ global network of salerooms in London, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.”

She gave examples of cross-border consignments and sales at the firm, such as a collection of speedway motorbikes and memorabilia from New Zealand-born motorcycle speedway star Ivan Mauger that will be offered at its sale of Important Collectors' Motorcycles and Spares in October at the Staffordshire County Showground in the UK.
