Chief executive Alex Barron revealed the institution’s ‘Ten-Year Vision’ at the college last Friday. The investment goes to fund more study opportunities for students, to academic and teaching resources and to student funding.

A buildings programme is also in the works. Major projects consist of a new library and archive space as well as an exhibition centre at the centre of campus. Further plans for ‘external outreach’ include an outdoor classroom for visiting groups, short-stay cabins and sculptures around the grounds.

West Dean is an affiliated partner of University of Sussex and offers foundation, diploma and master’s degree courses as well as more than 700 annual short courses.

Barron said the plans were in the interest of strengthening the college’s “position among the top colleges for arts and conservation” and to increase its “national and international reach”.
