With estimates ranging from £1000 to £100,000, these cover the entire period of the artist’s ceramics output from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. Created in limited editions which ranged in number from as few as 25 up to 500 at the Madoura pottery in the South of France, the ceramics were either impressions taken from moulds that had been worked on by the artist or else were authorised replicas of Picasso’s original designs.
There are plenty of plates and platters on offer as well as a range of vases and jugs. The potential best-sellers of the sale are a two-handled 21.25in (54cm) high vase of 1951, titled Gros oiseau visage noir which is numbered 3 from an edition of 25 which is guided at £100,000-150,000 and this 12.25in (31cm) high Taureau jug from 1955. Numbered 9 from an edition of 100 and incised edition Picasso and Madoura, it has an estimate of £50,000-70,000.
