The display, Expanding Colour, 1958-1972, brings together a number of pieces that Turnbull created during his experimental mid-career period. These were inspired in part by the artist’s trip to New York City in 1957, where he met Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko, and these paintings are flat and largely monochromatic.

At the same time, however, they incorporate the curves, circles, wave and ‘running’ lines which appear throughout Turnbull’s oeuvre.

Works are priced from $80,000-240,000.

The gallery is one of fewer than 20 dealerships with their main galleries in London appearing at next week’s Art Basel Miami Beach. Dedicated to modern and contemporary art, the fair hosts international dealers including Washburn Gallery (New York), Jessica Silverman Gallery (San Francisco), Galerie Nordenhake (Berlin) and Galería Leandro Navarro.

Offer Waterman’s display is part of Survey, a special section of the event dedicated to individual presentations of some 20th century innovators. Nine of Turnbull’s sequential Colour Field paintings and five industrially manufactured steel sculptures are included.

Based in a five-storey Georgian building in Mayfair, Offer Waterman has had sole representation of Turnbull’s estate and this display follows the gallery’s recent survey of his work New Worlds, Words, Signs.

Art Basel also hosts annual fairs in Basel and Hong Kong.

Among the other London galleries standing at its upcoming edition are Victoria Miro, Alan Cristea, White Cube and Waddington Custot.
