Chan was previously global managing director for Asian Art in Hong Kong at Christie’s and is the latest to join Phillips from the firm.
Phillips' chief executive Ed Dolman said: “The importance of Asia to our overall international growth strategy cannot be overstated. The collecting of contemporary art, design objects, photographs and jewellery in Asia has been growing at an exponential rate and we are seeing more Asian collectors at our New York and London auctions.”
Dolman spent 27 years at Christie’s before arriving at Phillips in 2014. Earlier this year it made two senior appointments from Christie’s in its offices in the Americas.
In contemporary art Phillips is regarded as third, behind auction giants Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
Chan will join Phillips in May in its Hong Kong office. Phillips is focused on growth in north and south America and in Asia. In the past year, Jane Yoon became its regional representative in Korea, Cindy Yen in Taiwan and Kyoko Hattori in Japan.
Phillips’ joint headquarters are in London and New York.
