Dix Noonan Webb recruits more coins experts
Coins, medals and jewellery auction house Dix Noonan Webb has recruited two more experts to join its expanding coins department.
Chris Rumney has become the London company’s roving agent in the UK and continental Europe, while Jon Mann has joined as DNW’s agent in the north of England. Their recruitment comes shortly after Islamic coins expert Tim Wilkes became a member of the department.
Rumney started out with the family coins and collectables business. He left the trade in 1992 and worked in local government until he was asked to help build up a bullion, numismatic and auction business in Geneva. He started with Numisor SA in 2009 and remained with them as a company director until he joined DNW.
Despite obtaining a first-class degree in nursing, Mann decided that a career in the coin trade was his true vocation. Several years were spent as an independent coin dealer before joining Spink & Son as its hammered coins specialist in 2014. From December 2015 Mann went back to independent coin dealing.
Former Bonhams and Fellows man now at Clevedon Salerooms
Mark Huddleston has joined Clevedon Salerooms.
Clevedon Salerooms has appointed Mark Huddleston to strengthen the valuation team at its site located 10 miles from the centre of Bristol.
Having previously been a head of department at Bonhams Chester and at Fellows Auctioneers of Birmingham, he brings over 20 years’ experience to the firm.
The auction house is based just off junction 20 of the M5 near Bristol, Bath, Wells, and Weston-Super-Mare.
Christie’s makes communications move
Nicky Eaton has joined Christie’s as head of communications for Europe, Middle East, Russia and India.

Before Condé Nast, Eaton worked with Camron Public Relations specialising in lifestyle clients including The Conran Shop, Waterford Crystal and for Tyler Brȗlé.
American pioneer retires
Litchfield County Auctions founder Weston W Thorn has retired.
US saleroom Litchfield County Auctions (LCA) has announced the retirement of founder Weston W Thorn.
After working a small auction house in New York, in 1971 he joined Sotheby’s where he worked as a cataloguer, auctioneer and eventually as director of Sotheby Parke Bernet’s PB-84, Sotheby's auction rooms for 19th century art and antiques.
In 1976 Weston started his own antiques business. During this time, he was also a member of the Appraisers Association of America and held positions on the board of directors and was elected president for the 1984-86 term.
Then in 1994 he launched LCA in Connecticut, and about five years later, it became a forerunner in the online auction world when it began hosting sales strictly online (although just recently LCA has gone back to its roots of conducting live auctions, combined with online bidding).
Weston will continue to consult at LCA on a limited basis. His elder son, Nicholas Thorn, took over as LCA president in 2014, and younger son Tyler is also involved in the business.
