Nichola and Ken Bryson, who run Bryson Furnishings, have submitted a planning application to open an auction house in an industrial unit close to the city’s airport.

The couple set up the furniture retailer in 2013 and feel there is an opportunity for a general saleroom in the area.

The Bryson’s have funding for the venture from Nichola’s parents and their son will supply the food and drink for customers. If the planning application is successful, they hope to open in the autumn and will hold weekly general household evening auctions on Thursdays and build up to eventually hold an antiques sale every three months.

Nichola believes there is a gap in the market as the nearest auction houses are between 45 minutes and an hour away in Dingwall and Elgin.

The new auction house will employ some part-time staff and is considering either hiring a freelance auctioneer, or Ken Bryson may take on the role of auctioneer.

Nichola said: “I’ve seen what he is like at a car boot sale. I know he will be great, he has the gift of the gab.”
