Large single-owner collection of modern Moorcroft pottery goes under the hammer in Suffolk

The group was pieced together by a now elderly gentleman from west Norfolk who is a long-standing client of the auction house and a member of the Moorcroft Collectors Club. He also bought works from Moorcroft offshoots Cobridge and Black Ryden. The majority of his purchases were made in the 1990s and early 2000s, and remain on the more affordable end of Moorcroft’s offerings.

Ranging from the start of the 20^th century to contemporary pieces, the pieces on offer reflect the range of the pottery, which William Moorcroft (1872-1945) launched in 1912.

All the items produced by the company are hand-painted and employ a distinctive trailed-slip technique known as tube-lining.

Lacy Scott & Knight offers this pair of limited edition Black Ryden pottery vases in the Summers End pattern in its 20th Century Design sale on September 14. Each has a square rim to a slender neck and bulbous lower body, designed by Kerry Goodwin, impressed mark verso, signed, dated '03. The pair are earmarked at £150-250.

Moorcroft remains popular with buyers in the UK and beyond.
