Christie’s

Former Sotheby’s senior specialist Jonquil O’Reilly has joined Christie’s as VP, head of sale in the Old Master paintings department, based in New York.

She joins Christie’s “with expertise in Italian paintings, and has conducted research and contributed scholarly catalogue essays on Raphael, Botticelli and Canaletto”.

O’Reilly worked at Sotheby’s for 10 years in London and New York. She has also appeared as a panelist at TEFAF.

Phillips

Phillips has appointed Cathy Elkies as chief marketing and business development officer, overseeing the firm’s marketing and business development strategy, based in New York.

She joins from Christie’s, where she most recently served as global managing director, 20th and 21st century art and design. Other roles at Christie’s included global managing director of client strategy, and launching the Iconic Collections department. She also served as president of Christie’s East and managing director of its Los Angeles office.

Clars Auction Gallery

Mariam Whitten has joined Clars, the 46-year-old Oakland, California, auction house, as managing director.

Whitten, a San Francisco Bay Area native, comes to Clars from a career of over 20 years at Bonhams in San Francisco (formerly Butterfield & Butterfield). She began as front desk manager before becoming director of internet services. Subsequently she rose to director of business administration, and lastly, vice president of operations. 

Redge Martin, president of Clars, has decided to scale back his workload after 25 years at the gallery, to pursue other interests.

Alderfer Auction

Christian Answini has joined US saleroom Alderfer Auction as senior specialist of fine and decorative arts. In his new role he will oversee the Fine & Decorative Arts, Collector’s and Nostalgic Treasures auctions.

Alderfer is based in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.
