The facility will be open from September 17 for consignments and its first sale is scheduled for October.

The new location is purpose-built, allowing viewing from across the saleroom and a separate bidding room.

Younger generations

Auctioneer and fine arts expert William Duggleby said: “We’re conscious of the sometimes stuffy image of auctions and we’re keen to encourage younger generations… The market for quality furniture, gold, silver, diamonds and interesting antiques ready to go is proving an increased attraction among younger adults and having an auction room that matches aspirations of buyers and sellers is a huge leap in the right direction.”

Duggleby and Rodney Cordingley will manage the new saleroom in York.

The original David Duggleby business, based in Scarborough, will maintain its existing saleroom and Boulton & Cooper Stephensons of Malton and York will continue to run its operations.
