The Office for National Statistics reported that sales in June were strong, boosted by sales of second-hand goods including antiques.

Marco Forgione, CEO of BADA, said that the news “reinforced” what members have noticed during the year, including increased sales at the association’s March fair and at its inaugural curated selling exhibition, BADA Collection at 46 Pimlico Road.

“Online, bada.org is attracting record numbers of visitors from around the world, over a third of visitors are from the US, and an unprecedented number of inquiries and sales are being made daily," he added.

"It is clear that there is a growing demand for antiques and that buyers recognise that the safest place to find quality antiques is from a BADA dealer.”

LAPADA chief executive Freya Simms reported particularly strong sales in June and July.

She added: “LAPADA has seen activity from a new generation of millennial buyers, who, in a quest to buy sustainably- and beautifully-crafted furniture forgo the bland ‘cookie cutter’ interiors. They are collecting antiques, pre-owned and reclamation pieces to reflect their individual taste and style as well as minimising their impact on the environment.”
