The insurer of the castle is offering a reward of £10,000 for the return of items that were taken in the early hours of Sunday, September 8.
The castle is the home of Lady Ashcombe and her family. The items had been part of the Alice Keppel collection, which had been created by Lady Ashcombe’s husband, the late Lord Ashcombe, whose grandmother was Alice Keppel.
Keppel had been the mistress of Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Some of the items stolen are jewellery which Edward gave to Keppel.
One of the stolen items is this gold enamel and jewelled presentation snuff box that had belonged to Alice Keppel, the mistress of Edward VII.
Among the missing items are a circular three-colour gold snuff-box, a gold enamel and jewelled presentation snuff box, a Russian parcel-guilt preserve jar, an enamel and rose gold fob watch by Cartier and a cigarette case by Fabergé.
Anyone with information should call the police on 101 or the Gloucestershire Constabulary quoting incident reference 110 of September 8.
The insurer clarified that “payment of the reward in these circumstances is at the sole discretion of Sudeley Castle’s insurer which will be under no obligation to pay the reward and whose decision will be final”.
