Toovey's

Toovey’s are a family-owned auction house based in Washington, West Sussex. 

Established in 1994, they hold monthly sales at their Spring Gardens Auction Rooms with events running for three to four days and divided into distinct specialist categories – from textiles, rugs, stamps to Arts & Crafts, fine art and automobilia.

Rare timepieces from wartime in Penzance and West Sussex

A rare Longines centre seconds military wristwatch – a type developed in 1944 for the rigours of airborne work by the Research & Development team of the War Department – sold for a multi-estimate £11,200 at Barbara Kirk (15% buyer’s premium) in Penzance on November 27 last year.

Selling at $400,000 (£285,715), the original cover artwork for the 100th issue of Amazing Spider-Man comic led a recent three-day American comic and comic artwork auction that raised a total of around $7.2m (£5.14m).

The name Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) was mentioned as the possible hand responsible for this unsigned 18th century French charcoal and chalk drawing that leapt from lowly expectations to sell for £320,000 (plus 22.5% buyer’s premium) at Toovey’s of Washington, West Sussex on October 8.

Maori artefacts top regional tribal gathering
