LONDON: BUSINESS was surprisingly brisk at the preview reception of the Chelsea Antiques Fair last Thursday evening (September 12) with one dealer covering his costs within hours of the doors opening.

FOLLOWING the cancellation of a one-day fair scheduled for the Rembrandt Hotel, South Kensington last Sunday (September 15) the organiser, Edward Davidson, told the Antiques Trade Gazette he is definitely continuing with Heritage Antiques Fairs and although he is currently looking at other venues, he might return to the Rembrandt.

IRELAND’S top antiques fair will be held in Dublin next week when from September 26 to 29 some 45 dealers stand at the 37th annual Irish Antique Dealers Fair in the Main Hall of the Royal Dublin Society, Ballsbridge.

PARIS: A new Paris fair dedicated to Asian Art gets under way later this month. Running from Saturday September 21 to Wednesday September 25, the inaugural Biennale des Arts Asiatiques is timed to coincide with the opening week of the French capital’s Biennale des Antiquaires and takes places at the Carré des Sangliers in the Jardin des Tuileries – just a stroll down the road from the Carrousel du Louvre, where Paris’s most celebrated and glamorous veteran fair is held.

NOW in its 15th year, and after a few hiccups, the 20/21 British Art Fair has been on a roll for the past couple of years and its popularity should only be enhanced by its move to the Common-wealth Institute in Kensington High Street, London W8, where it will run from September 18 to 22.

The four-day Decorex International interior design trade fair runs this year from September 22-25 at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.

The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair, the event that pioneered the decorative look for antiques fairs and the first to realise the growing importance of the interior design trade, celebrates its autumn staging this month at its Battersea Park marquee from September 24-29.

The launch of the Art Las Vegas fair, scheduled for October 11 to 14 this year, has been postponed for a year.

THIS month, the international autumn fairs season gets seriously under way and the marker for the off in London is the country’s longest continually running event, the twice-yearly Chelsea Antiques Fair which will return to Chelsea Old Town Hall in the King’s Road for the 95th time from September 13 to 22.

THIRD time lucky for the annual Antiques For Everyone – Scotland fair, held at Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre from August 23 to 25.

ANTIQUES fairs currently allowed to operate without planning permission may continue to do so after the Government announced that there would be no change in the law after all.

TATTON Park in Cheshire is the National Trust’s most visited property, but not only is it the country’s favourite, it is also a big favourite of Essex organiser Robert Bailey who holds four Tatton fairs a year.

PLANS are well advanced for what looks set to become the major antiques fair of Belfast and, if the pre-launch activity is anything to judge by, Antiques and Arts International will be a contender for Ireland’s top fair.

ALTHOUGH since its inception 16 years ago the August Antiques For Everyone fair at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre has been overtaken in terms of business by its spring and autumn counterparts, this summer’s staging from August 8 to 11 proved the most lively NEC fair for some time.

AFTER spending much of the summer in London trying to woo British dealers over to his Fall Fair in New York, it was back in America that more recently organiser David Lester achieved his biggest coup so far in launching this new event.

INDISPUTABLY Maryland’s top antique event, and arguably one of America’s top antiques attractions, the 22nd annual Baltimore Summer Antiques Fair runs from August 23 to 25.

FOR the third year running, Birmingham-based fairs director Fran Foster stages Antiques For Everyone – Scotland and she hopes that from August 23 to 25 the exhibitors – more than 100 dealers at Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre – build on the considerable success of the first two.

THEY had to meet sometime and it was a colourful clash when the two TV stars, interior designer Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen and dealer/presenter David Dickinson, chanced upon each other at the Ardingly International Antiques and Collectors Fair at the South of England Showground on July 16 and 17.

AUSTRALIA: RATHER farther to go for an August fair, but no doubt a journey well rewarded is the Australian Antique Dealers Association’s own Antiques and Fine Art Fair.
