The UK used to be a centre of the toy market but – with the softening in the demand for teddies and dolls in particular – much of the action has moved to Germany, the US and France. Each sector needs its showpiece events, however. This was the first time for over 15 years that London hosted a fair of this type. With modest ambitions, it proved a sell-out and 2017’s event has already been planned for expansion.
London International Antique Toy Fair
JUVENILIA was the focus of Daniel Agnew’s inaugural London International Antique Doll, Teddy Bear and Toy Fair held for a day at Olympia in November. Formerly of Christie’s and currently working with Special Auction Services, Agnew launched the ‘200 years of Childhood’ event to “introduce antique childhood playthings to a new audience and revive the concept of multi-sector toy fairs”.
