De Veres’ Irish art sale on April 4 in Dublin opens with 75 lots from the collection of the late Michael Carroll. A career banker, Carroll bought much of his collection at The Dawson and Taylor Galleries in Dublin in the 1970s and ‘80s, including works by William Scott, Camille Souter, Gerard Dilllon, Tony O’Malley and Patrick Scott.

Carroll got to know the abstract artist Cecil King (1921-86) when they lived together in the 1940s, and two works by the artist also feature in the auction. Pictured here is Winter Landscape (1961), a small 3¾ x 7½in (9.5 x 19cm) oil on paper guided at €400-600.
