He said: “Henry Nicholls, one of our longest-standing dealers, tweeted that he had sold out, saying ‘Where else can you guarantee this level of buyers? A fantastic day, one of the best yet’.”

Cruttenden added: “Another dealer I was chatting with said that she’d had a fantastic day, selling over 20 suitcases to an Italian couple, and a regular dealer from France said they’d pretty much sold out.

“Walking around the pick-up zone, where buyers can park closer to the trading area to collect goods, I noticed international shipping companies, some from Japan and Korea, with others from Shepperton and Pinewood Studios who were buying for the upcoming 2018 Mary Poppins movie – all exciting stuff for us.”

Business as usual

In an update to the Jockey Club and Redrow Homes joint proposal regarding the mooted closure of the racecourse in order to facilitate the building of 3000 homes reported in ATG in January, Cruttenden said: “We are continuing as usual. There is so much strong opposition to this from the local council, local residents and the racing fraternity, I think there will be a mammoth outcry if this gets anywhere near what they are proposing.”
