Companies House said the company had failed to file its annual return in time. Fryer & Brown has been given two months’ notice to file, otherwise it will be struck off and the company dissolved. Director Jane Brown resigned on January 16 and remaining director Justin Fryer confirmed to ATG it had ceased trading.

He added: “The company will either be wound down or forced into compulsory liquidation.”

Some customers are still waiting for money or items but Fryer said he does not have access to its stock.

Other Companies House documents show a new Surrey auction firm called Opus Auctions was incorporated on January 12. Its shareholders are listed as Jane Brown, Stephen Giles, former consultant head of jewellery at Fryer & Brown, and a businesswoman called Larita Margaret Daniels.

Opus set up a website and its address is listed as Threshold Way, Fairoaks Airport near Chobham in Surrey. A notice on the website said an auction date will be “announced shortly”.

Jane Brown was contacted by ATG but did not comment on the situation.
