The highest sum for a drawing by the Impressionist in Paris last month came in Christie’s Impressionist and Modern works on paper sale on March 23. Danseuse au Bouquet, a 23 x 18in (60 x 46cm) charcoal and stump on blue paper study realised a mid-estimate €480,000 (£417,391).

Sotheby’s single works on paper sale, which rounded off the week on March 24, featured two Degas drawings among its top 10.

Chez le Modiste, an 18 x 23in (46 x 59cm) pastel and charcoal study from c.1885 of a seated seamstress decorating a hat, made €300,000 (£260,088). A 19in x 2ft 1in (48 x 64cm) pastel drawing of the rue Quesnoy in Saint Valery sur Somme in northern France from c.1895-8 sold for €150,000 (£130,000).
