However, the continued success of the Antiques Dealers Fair Limited event there as well as the recent opening of several new galleries in the area has helped allay fears.
ADFL’s next event is the Petworth Park Antiques & Fine Art Fair. Now in its third year, the event takes place from May 5-7 on the grounds of the National Trust’s Petworth House where 48 dealers exhibit fine art, porcelain, furniture and more in a purpose-built marquee.
It is the third of the ADFL fairs to have taken place so far this year from a total of eight and is organised by Kent dealer Ingrid Nilson.
Among the galleries to open a shop in Petworth recently is Rountree Tryon, a sporting, maritime and wildlife fine art specialist which is adding to its existing London space. The gallery is among those taking a space at the local fair, where it will showcase a number of marine paintings and seascapes.
Other first-time exhibitors include The Parker Gallery bringing Old Master and British paintings, antique clocks specialist Richard Price, porcelain and ceramics dealer Jupiter Antiques and Ottocento with fine art and vintage posters. Also showing for the first time is nearby Petworth Antiques Market, fresh from its 2015 refurbishment and home to more than 35 dealers.
The fair works with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, a conservation charity that protects endangered species, as well as the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, the charitable arm of the Royal Warrant Holders Association.
