An extensive collection of pipes will go under the hammer at Reeman Dansie’s Specialist Collectors Sale on December 12-13.

It comes from the estate of the late collector John Adler (1935-2017) and comprises more than 250 lots of meerschaum, clay, porcelain, oriental, early American and tribal pipes, together with associated paraphernalia spanning the long tradition of pipe smoking.

The unusual late 19th century graduated set of carved meerschaum cheroot holders pictured above carries hopes of £150-250.

A collection of early work by sculptor-potter Ruth Duckworth (1919-2009) features in Mallams’ sale in Oxford on December 7-8.

The 19 pieces were produced by Duckworth in London before her move to Chicago in 1964, and have been in a private collection for over 50 years.

The series of tablewares and small-scale sculptural pieces will carry estimates of between £100-500 each, while an oil on paper composition titled Nude and Sunflower is estimated at £1000-2000.

A Victorian gold and enamel child’s bangle features in Gardiner Houlgate’s watch and jewellery auction in Corsham on November 30.

Decorated with a foliate plaque and blue key design decoration, it is estimated at £300-400.

Early oak and vernacular works of art specialist Wilkinson’s will hold its next sale on December 3 in Doncaster.

The 14½ x 12½in (37 x 32cm) Scottish ‘House’ sampler pictured above is estimated at £300-500.

Sewn in 1831 by 11-year-old Agnes Johnson, it is worked in shades of green and beige with typical Scottish motifs including peacocks, thistles and a picket fence.
