Signed on the front free endpaper was the fine 1956 first of World of Chance illustrated above, which sold at $5800 (£4430).
Dick’s first novel, it had been first published earlier that same year as a paperback and with a different title, Solar Lottery, but the hardback edition was a considerably revised and heavily edited version. The saleroom could trace no other signed example.
Estimated at $2000-3000 but sold instead at $13,000 (£9925) was a 1965 first of Dick’s The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch inscribed “To MR S-F a great guy…”
One wonders which fellow writer he regarded as ‘Mr S-F’?
