On November 21, Fellows (23% buyer’s premium) offered this ship’s bell engraved HMS Brilliant – 1981 for an estimate of £100-200. The vendor was a private person whose relative had a connection to the Brilliant.

Despite lacking the clapper, and with knocks, dents, losses to surface painting and some surface marks, the 14¼ x 13in (36 x 33cm) bell sold for £1900 to a bidder on thesaleroom.com.

HMS Brilliant was a Type 22 frigate and took part in the only ship-to-ship engagement of the Falklands War, when she and HMS Yarmouth chased the Argentine coaster Monsunen. Brilliant also served in the first Gulf War. On decommission in 1996 she became the Dodsworth before being broken up as scrap in Turkey in 2012.
