A 1920s Vienna Secession-style watch in white gold and champleve enamel is priced at £3500 from the Tadema Gallery in Camden Passage in Islington, London.
The manual-wind watch (which was recently overhauled) retains its original 17-jewel movement and is marked for the Swiss watch-maker Longines.
Made from walnut, this Omar Ramsden Arts & Crafts bowl pictured above is estimated at £3000-5000 in Bonhams’ Home and Interiors sale on December 19 in Knightsbridge. Hallmarked London, 1936, the 10in (24cm) wide piece is carved into a decagonal with a silver rope-twist and mask rim.
Books, works on paper and photographs will make up Bloomsbury Auctions’ final sale in its current guise on December 14.
The auction house, which was recently acquired by Gurr Johns, is moving out of its Maddox Street saleroom and will hold the sale at Stanley Gibbons’ London HQ on the Strand.
One item on offer is a Curwen & Dent stock blocks and devices, produced in 1993 in limited editions to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Eric Ravilious’ (1903-42) death. This edition, which has five original wood-blocks and a set of original wood-engravings by Ravilious in solander cases, was made from a run of 107 copies. It is accompanied by a portfolio, produced in an edition of 425.
It forms part of a 16-lot collection of books and works illustrated by Ravilious, and is estimated at £1800-2200.
Returning to the market for the first time since 1951, a study of Minerva by Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-98) features in a Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite and British Impressionist art sale at Sotheby’s in New Bond Street on December 14.
The 10½ x 5in (27 x 13cm) black and white chalk on brown paper was originally in the collection of the artist’s only daughter, Margaret Mackail, before it was acquired by the grandparents of the vendor in 1951.
It appears to relate to the disguised figure of the goddess Minerva approaching the hero Perseus in the background of The Call of Perseus.
This was one of the panels for the unfinished decorative scheme Burne-Jones designed for the drawing-room of 4 Carlton Gardens, the home of the Conservative politician Arthur Balfour.
Estimate £3000-5000.
