This 2in (5cm) model of a recumbent ram raised on a simple pad base, with eyes, muzzle and hoofs picked out in coloured enamels, was offered by Paul Beighton (17.5% buyer’s premium) in Thurcroft, Rotherham, on November 26. It dates to c.1785-90 and, save a couple of chips to the extremities, was in sound condition. Similar models are pictured in Sheenah Smith’s Lowestoft Porcelain in Norwich Castle Museum.

Two of the phones who competed for this model were calling from East Anglia – many collectors of Lowestoft are local to the factory – but this ram was bought by Albert Amor of London at £2600.

By way of comparison, on November 3, Bonhams Knightsbridge sold a pair in average condition (both with chips and the ram missing its curling horns) for £5000.
