Semi-retired now, he has handled most of the great pre-war cars over the years and decided to put pen to paper to record his life-long fascination with these iconic marques. The result is a 428-page book, published by Piston Power Press, which presents many of what Howard considers ‘masterpieces’ of the 20th century. The weighty tome focuses on his personal favourites along with profiles of the dealers, auctioneers, restorers and the many ‘colourful’ characters he had worked with over many decades.
Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Alfa Romeo, Daimler and Bentley all take centre stage in this nostalgic review of a bygone era: “I look back with pleasure, I have lived well and travelled much of the globe, often in old cars… the best advice I can offer when it comes to spending good money on an old motor is ‘buy the best, forget the rest’.”
