My daughter spent a year volunteering in Kenya and saw the effect of poaching in the area.
I now see my carving as part of a trade that should not exist. It is an elephant’s tusk and may have beauty in its carving and be called a work of art, but should never have monetary value.
So I’d like to see a full ban come into force soon. We have moved on from our colonial days, but we are helping a trade that is linked to poaching by putting financial value on ivory items.
I would include all ivory in the ban, as any exemptions (mammoth, marine and so on) will merely create a loophole to exploit.
