The 12in (30cm) long bulbous tear-drop shades with brass galleried frames to the tops were in near perfect condition and similar to those produced by Powell at Whitefriars Glass. Estimated at £150-200, the shades sold at £1700.

THIS pair of Art Nouveau vaseline glass shades, above, attracted huge interest at the January 14 sale held by Stamford auctioneers Batemans (20% buyer’s premium).
