The 100-gun ship, one of the largest in the Royal Navy, was launched in 1790 and saw action in the French Revolutionary Wars.
This 8in (20cm) high model, showing the queen facing forward with the orb and sceptre in her hands flanked by cherubs and allegorical figures, is described by Wick Antiques as a “tour-de-force of the British woodcarver’s art” and was probably worked on at Chatham Dockyard by its best carvers, William Savage and George Williams.
One of only three versions known and the only one left in private hands, it is regarded as the most complete and closest to the specification. It has descended through the family of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Graham Eden Hamond (1779-1862). Price £54,000.
