The Nordenfelt mechanical gun was not the only early rapid-fire weapon on the market recently. At James D Julia’s (15% buyer’s premium) sale in Maine in October a naval issue Colt 1883 US Navy Gatling gun on its original bronze base sold for $152,000 (£125,650).
