The 388 lots are devoted mainly to fairs that took place in the US.

They encompass some of the best known of these technical and commercial showcases – the 1893 Columbian Exhibition and the 1933 Century of Progress Fair (both held in Chicago) and the 1939 New York World’s Fair – along with lesser-known events such as the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo of 1901.

Medals, programmes and other literature, commemorative ceramics and glass, metalwares and many other souvenirs all feature.

Pictured above is a lithographic poster promoting the 1939 New York event. Designed by Albert Staelhe, it features an exuberant woman against the backdrop of the fair’s two most famous structures: the Trylon and Perisphere.

The poster is estimated at $1000-2000.
