From Medieval Revelry to 17th Century Romance – Objects to Inspire is the title of Hansons’ June 1 sale in Etwall, Derbyshire. The auction will include all manner of ‘everyday objects’, from medieval stone carvings and oak furniture to 18th and 19th century pewter drinking vessels.
This Staffordshire slipware dished bowl, discovered on a valuation day in Wilmslow, is estimated at £1500-1800. Dated to c.1720, the 17in (43cm) wide dish is decorated with a geometric mirrored linear design in trailing slip on a chocolate glaze ground.
On June 1, Clevedon Salerooms in Bristol will offer a collection of Thai and other Buddha figures and busts.
This 16in (41cm) bronze bust, which bears a label stating it is a 17th century Thai Buddha, stands on an ebonised wooden base and is estimated at £400-600.
A collection of Second World War drawings by British artist Keith Vaughan (1912-77) features in Modern Art Auctions on June 7 in Scarborough.
Consigned from a UK private source and formerly in the collection of British artist Prunella Clough (1919-99), the eight-lot group was removed from Vaughan’s Second World War sketch book.
It includes this 5 x 8in (13 x 20cm) ink drawing of soldiers writing home (c.1941-42), which is estimated at £700-1000.
Batemans’ June 3 sale in Stamford, Lincolnshire, features this 17th century etching of The Friesian Horse by the Dutch artist Paulus Potter (c.1625-54).
The privately consigned work, which depicts a horse looking across the landscape towards The Hague with the Reformed Church of Voorschoten in the background, is one of five etchings of horses that Potter executed in 1652.
The 6 x 9in (15 x 23cm) etching is signed and dated. Estimate £400-600.
