This ornate late 19th century enamel and pearl pendant by London jeweller Child & Child is a highlight of George Kidner’s March 2 sale in Lymington, Hampshire.
Displayed in a contemporary fitted Child & Child leather case, the pendant features a central white enamel cusped section with a large natural saltwater pearl to the centre, and is flanked by red guilloché enamel peacocks with bright green tails.
Active from 1891-1915, Child & Child was renowned for its enamel work and produced jewellery in the Neo-Renaissance, Art Nouveau and Edwardian styles.
Estimate £1000-1500.
This Chopard Happy Diamonds teddy pendant is guided at £700-900 in Cheffins’ March 8-9 sale in Cambridge. Made from 18ct gold, the 1in (2.5cm) long seated bear has white gold paw pads and a freely-moving round-cut diamond contained in its tummy. It is inscribed with a Chopard signature and stamped 750.
The Happy Diamonds collection was the Swiss watchmaker’s first high-end jewellery line and was launched in the company’s 125th anniversary year in 1985. The first Happy Diamonds piece, a clown with hinged legs and a tummy of loose diamonds and coloured stones, was designed by Chopard vice-president Caroline Scheufele.
More than 20 vintage prints by the German-Australian fashion photographer Helmut Newton (1920-2004) kick off the Chiswick Auctions’ March 7 sale in London.
The collection was gifted to Newton’s agent Norman Solomon in recognition of the work he had carried out in promoting Newton’s ‘Private Property’ series of exhibitions in 1985. The group were shot and produced in ‘strictly limited editions’ from a series of transparencies before 1985, says the auction house. Always unsigned, such prints were sent to major publications to stimulate interest in the photographer’s work and were often destroyed or written over as a result.
This 16 x 12in (41 x 30cm) silver gelatin print, in an edition of two, depicts American fashion model Linda Morand as Jacqueline Kennedy in a satirical reportage-type layout for a 10-page spread in French Vogue. Estimate £1400-1800.
More than 50 pieces of Lowestoft porcelain from a private collection will be offered at the Durrants auction in Beccles, Suffolk, on March 10. Among the highlights is this 11in (28cm) high blue and white fence pattern coffee pot and cover with a cabbage moulded finial, estimated at £1500-2000.
