England won the five-test series 3-2, with RE Foster scoring 287 to set a world record at the time for the highest individual test innings.

The tour was the first time Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) sponsored and arranged it. England wore the distinctive red and yellow stripes of the MCC as their colours, and did so until the tour to New Zealand in 1996-97.
