A record-breaking 27,000 people descended on Oxford on May 1 this year for the city’s annual spring celebrations, a tradition for 500 years.
Celebrations involving 150 street performers included Morris dancers and exultant crowds throughout the streets, wearing much foliage and ‘green man’ outfits associated with the first day of spring.
Antiques on High’s dealers chose the colour green for their May window display, pictured above, with an eclectic mix of pieces selected from the centre’s stock.
They include a 1960s Denby studio pot designed by Glyn Colledge at £38, a Victorian glass vase with pinchwork decoration at £75, a rewired Art Deco lamp with flame shade at £190, a Ferris and Co surgical dressing tin c.1910 at £17.
Browsers can also find an early 20th century filigree brooch set with Pekin glass roundels at £45, a Mdina glass paperweight at £12 and an Egyptian faience Ushabti dated 600-300BC at £1790.
