And two events this month offer the chance to learn more about the medium and purchase a few fine examples.

First up is the 48th annual seminar hosted by the London Ceramic Circle, which takes place from October 21-22.

The event is held at Morley College in London and this year examines the history of ceramic styles. It includes talks by Anton Gabszewicz (Rococo Style – The Metropolitan Ceramic Scene), Rose Kerr (Chinese Styles: Imperial and Popular Wares) and Jacqui Pearce (Medieval style – through modern eyes).

After that is Jupiter Antiques’ annual autumn exhibition (October 27-28) at Edenbridge Galleries on the Kent-Surrey borders.

More than 300 items of ceramic and porcelain feature at the event. Pieces from private collections join the gallery’s recent acquisitions from the UK and abroad in the show.

Among the best-represented areas are Worcester 18th century blue and white and Vauxhall, along with Regency Flight Barr and Barr and Chamberlain Worcester. A small collection of Bristol from North America, as well as a number of Worcester coloured wares featuring Hop Trellis Sèvres-style and Giles decorated pieces, are also among the stand-out selections.
