Some 80 dealers stall out in the pumping room alongside one of the three original mighty pumping machines, the Marshall, as well as on hardstanding outside.
The museum was the former Southend Waterworks Company’s Langford Pumping Station which opened in 1929, at a cost of £1108.76, transforming, said the Essex Chronicle, “an obscure village into a place of considerable importance”.
By the late 1960s and with the need for increased capacity, the company abandoned the original works to construct a new complex nearby.
The waterworks looked doomed until 1996 when the local council and Essex & Suffolk Water combined forces to open the museum.
The next fair at the museum is on Sunday, April 15.
