A bowler hat and cane used by Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977) has been consigned to London Auctions in Chiswick on February 12.
The black ‘Derby’ bowler hat with reinforced top and the 2ft 9in (83cm) long bamboo cane are believed to be from Chaplin’s dressing room in Los Angeles just before the Second World War. They were given to Lt Macdonald of the Black Watch, who was given a tour of Chaplin’s studio while holidaying in LA.
The pair, which are housed in a bespoke wooden case, come from the collection of William Forbes-Hamilton, the former curator and owner of the Museum of Entertainment in Truro, Cornwall. Estimate £20,000-30,000.

This 9½in (24cm) high porcelain bottle vase by Lucie Rie (1902-95) is among the leading lots at Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood in Exeter on February 27.
Estimated at £8000-12,000, it was purchased by the current owner from The British Crafts Centre in London in August 1977. It is decorated with bronze glazes and a ‘knitted’ decoration inside the rim, on the shoulders and under the foot.

This 400-year old English sterling silver goblet, dating to the reign of James I, is one of only a few from this period to have been made by a known cup maker.
Bearing the maker’s mark for either FS or SF London 1617, the 8in (20cm) high piece is priced at £17,500 from Wax Antiques.
