Managing director Lee Young has hired fellow Antiques Roadshow specialists Ronnie Archer-Morgan and Marc Allum alongside watches and sporting specialist Julian Smith. A series of new sales are scheduled.

Although the three are employed as consultants, Young said: “They will be incorporated into the business and will be part of its DNA, very much part of the team.”

Young said the added cachet of the Antiques Roadshow is “like going in with a RICS qualification – it gives the public confidence”.

Biannual tribal sale

Archer-Morgan will source, catalogue and research material for a new tribal sale which will be held twice a year, commencing in April.

Young said: “Tribal is a bit of a minefield and needs someone who knows the market. It is a growing market, particularly with a younger audience.”

Experienced auctioneer and valuer Allum will end his connection to Derbyshire auctioneer Hansons and will concentrate on the M4 corridor around the Bath area.

He will now hold valuation day events as an ‘ambassador’ for Duke’s.

Julian Smith, previously at Holts and Kidson Trigg, will source watches for a bi-annual specialist sale, to begin in June, and sporting items for its regular sales.

Young said: “We have plenty of space in the building to accommodate new sales.”

Asian art specialist Young, who joined as managing director in December from Lyon & Turnbull, works with partners Guy Schwinge, Garry Batt and Sarah Gordon Wild and is tasked with expanding the Dorchester firm.

He is hunting for other specialists to recruit.

“We have the space to grow – we just need to find the specialists,” added Young.
