18th century walnut chest – £5800 at Stride & Son.
Offered at Stride & Son (20% buyer’s premium) on February 2, the chest had all the necessary plus points – line inlay, a brushing slide a caddy top and small size at 2ft 7in (79cm) wide.
The handles were probably replacements and there were some old worm holes and missing veneers, but it was in the fairly original condition dealers like. Against a standard sort of estimate at £600-800, it sold to the UK trade.
