Ignorance will destroy the past and not preserve the future. I am aware that the trade dislikes any idea of a tax. However, in life one has to be realistic. In any negotiation you can’t just take and you have to ‘give a dog a bone’.

Money is badly needed for the preservation of elephants and other wildlife, but government is disinclined to give money.

With a tax, to a large degree you disable the contrary argument and you give the preservationists what they and we want: the preservation of elephants, etc.
