The collection was formed in the 1920s-‘30s by Major Ion Harrison, an important patron and close friend of the four post-Impressionist Colourists: Leslie Hunter, Samuel Peploe, FCB Cadell and John Duncan Fergusson.

Comprising 31 paintings, watercolours and drawings, the group will go under the hammer on June 12 at Sotheby’s London in New Bond Street. Passed down through the family, the works remained together at Croft House, Major Harrison’s home where he openly welcomed the Colourists.

This 2ft 1in x 2ft 6in (63.5 x 76cm) oil on canvas by FCB Cadell (1883-1937) of the drawing room at Croft House in 1934 is estimated at £200,000-300,000.
