1. Moira Beaty (1922-2015) painted this scene titled Quiet Moment. With a label for Edinburgh gallery Open Eye, the 7½ x 6in (19 x 16cm) acrylic on board is among the first works to come to auction and more than doubled its top guide at Scottish saleroom Franklin Browns on June 2.

2. There is a strengthening local following for the Yorkshire artist Marie Walker Last (1917-2017) and her particular blend of Tachisme abstract painting. Circular Abstract, a 17 x 13in (43 x 34cm) signed gouache, was among several pictures sold for multi-estimate sums at Tennants of Leyburn on June 2.

3. Depicting the now demolished Old Lion Brewery on London’s South Bank, this undated 10 x 13in (25 x 34cm) oil on board by Stephen Bone (1904-58) sold above its guide at Ramsay Cornish in Edinburgh on June 2. Noted for his war works and cityscapes, Bone exhibited widely during his relatively short life and has an established secondary market.
