“I’m an antiques dealer and shall stay one. As I often say, that’s all I know how to do,” notes Perlès, but he is going to do things differently, discovering new fields and broadening the scope of his interests.
As a consequence he has put a selection of his stock up for auction.
Les Choix de Christophe Perlès is the title of the sale of 150 lots to be offered by Peschetau Badin at Drouot on June 18. It will include a large selection of pottery from Dutch delft, French faience and Italian maiolica, plus porcelain from Sèvres, Chantilly, Saint-Cloud and across other European factories.
Pictured above is one of Perlès’ pieces of French faience. The 13in (33cm) high figure of a moustachioed Chinaman in a boldly decorated tunic and yellow robe, shown holding a sabre, was made in Lille c.1750. It has an estimate of €6000-8000.
