The precise location of this signed Suffolk landscape, shown above, by 20th century British artist Cedric Morris (1889-1982) is not yet known.

However, it is dated 1929 – considered a key moment in the artist’s career. In that year, Morris and his lifelong partner Arthur Lett-Haines moved from London to Pound Farm in the village of Hingham. This first Suffolk home became a hub of artistic activity with visitors including Frances Hodgkins, Barbara Hepworth and John Skeaping.

The 22in x 2ft 3in (55 x 68cm) oil on canvas is estimated at £20,000-30,000 in Sworders’ Modern British Art sale in Stansted Mountfitchet on July 11.

Bagshawe Fine Art is selling a recently discovered preliminary sketch by Édouard-Bernard Debat-Ponsan (1847-1913) for his famous Orientalist work, Le Massage.

The small 6 x 8½in (16 x 22cm) oil on panel was painted during the early stages, when the artist’s intentions were still ambiguous.

It is priced at €12,000 and will be on display at the gallery in St James’s during London Art Week (June 29-July 6).
