In his effort to create good design for industrial production, Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) operated as a freelance commercial designer for many different manufacturers.

Among them was the ceramics company Minton. Dresser began supplying designs for tablewares and ornamental pieces in the late 1860s.

This Anglo-Japanese Aesthetic side table above includes the original period revolving 21½in (55cm) wide Minton porcelain plate in the Japanese Crane pattern designed by Dresser.

Potteries Auctions in Staffordshire is offering the table on March 10, estimated at £250-500.
